WBGF Individual Championship & World Team Championship

Information

Team Event

Each Team consist of 5 players and up to 3 substitutes including a coach or team captain (can be one of the players). The Team tournament is played as a qualifying round with 7 Team Matches to 13 points. Five players from one team plays 5 players from the opponent team. A team match can be won either 0-5, 4-1 or 3-2 (you get as many points as the number of individual matches you win). After the 7 rounds teams placed 1-4 advances to the semi finals. The best team after the 7 Swiss rounds can pick their opponent team between the teams ranked 3 and 4. In the Semi 5 players from each team play each other and a team needs 4 wins to advance to the final. If a team does not have 4 wins two team consultations matches are played (the team can pair the two teams as they wish using players from the team - consultation teams must be at least two players). When a team reaches 4 points they have won the semi final. Same format is used in the gold final and the Bronze final. Note that after one consultation match is finished and the overall team match is still undecided all players on a national team can consult in the final deciding match. The team event is played from Tuesday the 10th of July and finishes on Thursday the 12th of July. Entry is 1000€/team and no registration fee. There will be 5000€ added to the winning team.

Individual event

The individual tournament is played as triple elimination, meaning that you must lose 3 matches to be out. If 3 players with same number of buys and loses are left in the tournament they will play a 3 way final to 7 points. If they are still even they will play DMPs until the winner is found. Entry to the Individual championship is 200€ (no registration fee) and an optional 200€ side pool. There will be 15000€ added to the prize pool.

Byes

  • In first round bye are decided randomly if the number of players are odd.
  • After first round byes are decided randomly between players with most loses.
  • If less than 10 players are left in the tournament byes are decided randomly between all players who have not yet received a bye.
  • If the bye is to be given to one of 2, 3 or 4 players. DMPs are used to decide who gets the bye. If still undecided after DMPs the buy will be decided by a random draw.
